Extra Credit Options

I’ve decided to give the students some extra credit opportunities to my students.

Science - Find a current events article (newspaper, magazine, internet news article) on light, sound, or electricity.  Highlight important parts of the story.  Write two paragraphs that tell what the story is mostly about and explains your opinion of the article.

Math - (Mr. Kelsey’s homeroom students only).  Make a chart of some kind that tells what you are doing at these times of the day (Saturday or Sunday)

3 a.m

Quarter after 8

10:20

Half past 12. (We are now in p.m.)

Quarter past 2

4:13

6:40

Quarter ’til 9

Half past 10

Midnight

The chart should first have the listed time, then a drawing of an analog clock showing that time.   This chart can be on regular white paper.

*I’ve noticed that many students are struggling with “quarter til” and “quarter past.”

These extra credit assignments are due Tuesday!  Late assignments will not be accepted.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Chatty

Today after Alabama History with Ms. Simpson, several students lost tickets for frequent talking during class.  This was not limited to her class.  Many students have been visiting while I’m teaching or while we travel down the hall. This is unacceptable!  My students can do so much better.

We decided to come up with a list of reasons why we can’t visit during most of the school day.

 1) It takes away from our learning time.

2) You can’t hear what Mr. Kelsey is saying when talking is going on.

3) It bothers others who are working hard and need to concentrate.

4) During work time, your teacher might think you’re cheating.

5)  If one person talks, then another student may think it is okay to talk.   Then everyone talks.

6) It is disprespectful to your teachers.

I hope that my students will show some improvement.  This class has so much potential!

It is definately not everyone involved in this.  For the students that are great listeners:  thank you!

Please be sure to review your child weekly report tomorrow!

Still at School, Friday at 6 p.m.

Hello,

Would you believe that I’m still at school 6 p.m. on Friday night?  Me neither!

You probably heard about the 4th grade pep talk that Mr. Jacks gave us.  He (and the teachers) are expecting some changes.   These are discussed in the letter.

In order for your child to participate in the reward time, my students will need to have five tickets by the end the week.  Each student will be given two tickets to start their week.  Three more should be earned.  If some are lost, they’ll have to work harder.

If a student does not have 5 tickets by Friday, he or she will have some consequences.  One of these is an academic assignment.

One change for next week:  the math test is now on Thursday.  I think we need one more day of elapsed time practice.

Don’t forget, your child has a take home test to take!  This was with the newsletter today.

Have a good weekend!
